Visiting the vineyard, winery and wine tasting with a view to the Alvarinho valley

Quinta de Soalheiro, a pioneer in the creation of Alvarinho wine in Melgaço, is an international benchmark for the wines of this grape variety, blending perfectly into the distinctive Minho land- scape surrounding it. Located in Melgaço (Portugal’s northernmost point) it is protected by a range of mountains that create the conditions necessary for the best ripening of the Alvarinho grapes.

The top of the winery boasts a tasting room, leading to a panoramic terrace from where the view extends over the vineyards, mountains surrounding and closing the valley and neighbouring Spain, and the breeze can be felt from the Minho river flowing close by – a perfect panorama of the unique terroir of this region.

Quinta de Soalheiro is a family business and mantains this spirit. In the nineteen seventies (1974), a passion for winemaking led João António Cerdeira, with the support of his parents, to plant the first Alvarinho vine and, in 1982, to create the first brand of Alvarinho in Melgaço.

Nowadays are his children Maria João and António Luís, together with their mother Maria Palmira, that carry on this dream. With a team of around 40 people and a Club of viticulturists with more than 150 families, today Soalheiro is a family of families.

Soalheiro offers you a cultural experience which can be experienced with family and friends… from 8 to 80 years old.

A discovery of Alvarinho’s Territory – Monção and Melgaço – where gastronomy, nature and friendship come together in an experience that will surely stay in your memory. The visit to Soalheiro ends with one of the several wine tasting experiences available, but it’s much more that that: it’s the discovery of the distinctive landscape and of the unique and familiar culture of the Alvarinho’s Territory.
