Adega José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes, located in Reguengos de Monsaraz, has existed since 1878 and was acquired by José Maria da Fonseca in 1986, in order to fulfill the old dream of producing wine in Alentejo, in a property full of prestige and history.

A tradition started by the Romans over 2000 years ago is kept alive in this winery. The José de Sousa winery has 114 clay pots, where an ancestral and very rare method of fermentation is carried out inside large clay pots – Talhas.

In addition to the traditional winery, it also has a modern winery, with 44 stainless steel vats and all the necessary technology for red and white winemaking.

On this private tour, in family, accompanied by a specialized guide, you will have the opportunity to discover and visit a unique winery in the world, where amphora wines are still produced, following the ancient Roman tradition. They are special wines with aromas and characteristics that you have never found in other wines.

The guided tour starts at our educational vineyard, where we introduce you to the main grape varieties we use in our wines. We continue in the modern cellar made up of stainless steel vats, where the entire winemaking process will be explained. We also pass by the archeology room, where we show all the archaeological remains, discovered at Herdade do Monte da Ribeira, including a menhir measuring almost 5 meters. We end up at the magnificent Adega dos Potes, built in 1878, a unique winery where we conserve and use clay pots to produce our most special wines – the amphora wines!

After the visit, you can enjoy, as a family, a tasting of 2 wines for the adults and 2 fruit juices for the children, accompanied by the best products from the region, in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

Children will also have games, activities and paintings available, and a box of crayons will be offered as a gift.
