Adega José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes, located in Reguengos de Monsaraz, has existed since 1878 and was acquired by José Maria da Fonseca in 1986, in order to fulfill the old dream of producing wine in Alentejo, in a property full of prestige and history.

A tradition started by the Romans over 2000 years ago is kept alive in this winery. The José de Sousa winery has 114 clay pots, where an ancestral and very rare method of fermentation is carried out inside large clay pots – Talhas.

In addition to the traditional winery, it also has a modern winery, with 44 stainless steel vats and all the necessary technology for red and white winemaking.

In this program, which normally takes place between the end of August and the beginning of September, you will be able to participate in the Harvest activities taking place in the winery and taste typical Alentejo flavours.

The experience starts in the morning with a Welcome Drink, where Moscatel wine and some regional cookies will be available to gain energy for the harvest day. You will also receive a straw hat and a t-shirt as a gift.

This is followed by a guided tour of the modern winery – made up of stainless steel vats, where the entire winemaking process will be explained – and the winery of clay pots, a unique winery where we conserve and use clay pots for the production of our most special wines – the amphora wines!

Depending on the stage in which the harvest is at, you can participate in foot treading the grapes in lagares, tasting the must or even harvesting the grapes in our vineyard in Monte da Ribeira.

The experience ends with a lunch of regional snacks, where you can taste gaspacho – typical tomato soup, chicken pies, meat pastries, cheeses, various sausages, olive oil, regional bread, olives, jam and traditional biscuits accompanied by José de Sousa wines.
