There are 19 winemakers on Madeira Island, each with its own distinctive wine production methods, while never neglecting traditional techniques. Many of these companies pass from generation to generation, without any major changes to the techniques and characteristics of their winemaking, and always maintaining their distinctive traits and quality standards.

Many of these producers have their own wine cellars and vineyards, offering guided tours and tastings of Madeira wines to the public.

Blandy’s is one of the leading producers of Madeira Wine.

It is owned by the Blandy family and represents brands such as: Blandy’s, Cossart Gordon, Leacock’s & Miles. Their “Blandy’s Wine Lodge” wine cellars are located in a 200-year-old Convent in the centre of Funchal. A visit there is an opportunity to admire 200 years of Madeira Wine history. Today, it is the heart of the family’s wine business, where over 650 barrels and vats are stored and aged using the traditional “Canteiro” (storage in American oak casks) method.

At the Blandy wine cellars, there are, in certain periods of the year, wine-related festivities, namely moonlit grape harvests, themed dinners, workshops on regional delicacies, cocktails with Madeira wine, traditional festivals, among others.
