The reference wine and rural experience in the Algarve, recovering the terroir of a land that wine has forgotten.
Founded in the early 1810s by the 1st Count of Silves, Morgado do Quintão remains in the same family, now in the fourth generation, surviving resiliently over two centuries and during the 1980s and 1990s when many of the Algarve’s vineyards and farmland were lost to the tourism boom.
The mother of the current owners, Teresa Pereira Caldas de Vasconcellos (1941-2017), an experimental contemporary artist and teacher, honed, through her creative exploration, a deep connection with the land.
Today, winemaking is rooted in an attempt to showcase the richness of the Algarve terroir and mark its identity in the production of some of the region’s most valued wines. In addition to the vineyards, olive groves and almond orchards, the farm opens its gates for people from all over the world to stay in its old whitewashed vineyard cottages.
To gather at the farmers’ table and taste the harvest to experience first-hand the history of this farm, helping to safeguard its heritage, ensure its future in future generations and allow another Algarve to be made known, is the invitation here. Get in touch to schedule a wine tasting, lunch or to find out more about the unique experience of this reference farm in the Algarve, with organic grape growing and award-winning wines.
Morgado do Quintão is located in the municipality of Lagoa, near beautiful and award-winning beaches such as Marinha beach. In addition to its vineyards, with the oldest Portuguese grape varieties in production, and its 2000-year-old olive groves, Morgado do Quintão has a 1940’s wine press and charming chalets perfect for lazy summer days.
